What Is the Victorian Emerging Players Program?
The Victorian Emerging Players Program, run by Cricket Victoria, is a premier development initiative designed to support the state’s most promising young cricketers. It plays a vital role in bridging the gap between junior cricket and elite-level competition.
Here’s what the program offers:
- Targeted Talent Identification: Players are selected based on outstanding performances in competitions like the Craig Shield and other key pathway tournaments.
- High-Performance Environment: Training takes place at world-class venues such as Junction Oval and the MCG, fostering discipline, skill enhancement, and match-readiness.
- Elite Coaching Access: Players benefit from coaching by former Test players and current Victorian staff who help refine both technical and mental aspects of the game.
- Pathway to Professional Cricket: Many participants progress to the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), senior Victorian teams, and other national competitions.
- Well-Rounded Development: The program also integrates leadership training, sports science, physical conditioning, and performance analysis.
Being selected is not just an honour, it’s a stepping stone toward a future in professional cricket.
